In a major step forward for regional development, The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), a leading education provider in the South West, has introduced a new training programme designed to equip the workforce with specialised skills in sync with local industry requirements.
Bridging the Skills Gap
This training programme, dubbed Career Skills Training, is set to revolutionise the way local businesses meet their staffing needs, focusing squarely on the pressing demands identified in the recent Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for Devon and Cornwall. By aligning educational outputs with the actual needs of the local economy, the programme aims to address critical skill shortages in vital sectors such as construction, digital technologies, engineering, healthcare, and marine technology.
Industry-Driven Training
Lisa Piper, Head of Business Development at Career Skills Training, stressed the importance of direct communication between businesses and educational bodies. “Every employer has unique goals and challenges. We’re committed to helping them overcome these hurdles by providing top-tier training that aligns closely with their specific demands,” she explained.
This personalised training approach is crafted to provide tangible benefits to businesses, enhancing their competitive edge, operational efficiency, and preparing them for future challenges. The programme offers more than 70 specialised courses, including advanced engineering practices like CNC and welding, as well as essential business skills in leadership and management.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Capitalising on TCCG’s expansive resources, the programme offers access to expert training across ten different campuses, equipped with the latest in technology and educational facilities. This ensures that the workforce remains at the cutting edge of industry developments and best practices.
Tony Marshall, Director of Business Development and Partnerships, highlighted the proactive nature of the programme. “We’re not just responding to current market needs; we’re anticipating future demands to ensure that our region’s workforce is second to none. Our close ties with local industries guarantee that our training is not only relevant but also a transformative force for the companies and their employees,” he noted.
