Major College Transformation Promises New Era for Cornwall Learners
Revamped Camborne campus unveils modern facilities and bold ambitions
A multi-million-pound redevelopment at Cornwall College Camborne has officially been unveiled, marking a major milestone for education, businesses and communities in west Cornwall.
The College, rated Ofsted Outstanding, celebrated the completion of its extensive transformation project this week, showcasing the modernisation of its landmark Tamar Tower. The redevelopment is part of a wider £12 million government-funded scheme supported by the Department for Education’s FE Capital Transformation Fund.
Iconic building brought into the future
The 1960s Tamar Tower has been completely overhauled. Upgrades include modern classrooms, bespoke facilities and contemporary office spaces, designed to support the College’s mission to deliver top-quality education and training.
Perran Moon, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, praised the scheme for its wider impact.
“Cornwall College is an essential part of Cornwall’s industrial future, in delivering the skills that we need to support business growth in Cornwall. Projects like this show how government funding can create real, lasting benefits, not just for education, but for the wider community and local economy,” he said.
Supporting students and the community
Principal Rory Mason reflected on the significance of the transformation, highlighting how it builds on the College’s heritage while focusing on the future.
“While we are keen to celebrate the area’s heritage, we want to create inspiring, future-ready environments for our Outstanding education and training delivery.”
“Having started my career here in this building 25 years ago, it’s wonderful to be able to stand here and see how far we’ve come as a college, working in partnership with businesses and schools, such as Redruth School represented by Head Craig Bonds here with us today.”
The extensive redevelopment also includes vibrant student spaces, a state-of-the-art learning resource centre, and impressive media and gaming facilities. Work continues on expanded green and social spaces, along with a new weather-resistant energy centre designed to enhance campus sustainability.
Commitment to excellence
Luke Bazeley, Head of Campus, described the transformation as a powerful statement of intent.
“It also reflects our belief that access to quality education and training should be at the heart of our place-based colleges. This investment is already making a real difference. We are creating spaces where ambition and creativity can thrive.”
The works were delivered by Fox Construction Solutions, which also completed a major overhaul of the Trelawney building at the heart of the campus.
