Cornwall College Group Earns Historic ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted Rating
Exceptional Learning, Strong Partnerships, and a Bright Future for Students
Cornwall College Group (CCG) has officially been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, marking a historic achievement for the organisation and a major boost for learners, businesses, and communities across Cornwall and Devon.
Following a week-long inspection, Ofsted’s glowing report praised CCG’s commitment to “exceptional learning opportunities”, its “highly effective partnerships to meet local training needs”, and its aspirational learning environments that leave students “highly motivated to learn”.
A Moment of Pride for the College
Rob Bosworth, Principal and CEO, expressed immense pride in the achievement, describing it as a testament to the dedication of staff, the ambition of learners, and the support of local partners.
“This is an historic moment for Cornwall College Group, and is an outcome of the relentless dedication of our staff, the ambition of our learners and the invaluable support of our partners,” Rob said.
He emphasised the deep connection between CCG and the communities it serves, stating that the Ofsted recognition reflects the college’s role at the heart of Cornwall and Devon.
“It highlights how our colleges are at the very heart of the communities we serve, and reflects how hard we work in partnership to deliver Outstanding outcomes. Businesses and local stakeholders can be confident they will achieve their goals and ambitions with us, as we transform lives and help drive economic growth in Cornwall and Devon.”
Praise for Teaching, Learning Spaces, and Partnerships
Inspectors commended CCG’s learning environments, noting that “excellent learning spaces that staff have created contribute to learners and apprentices being highly motivated”, while also providing “an inclusive, welcoming and caring environment”.
The report highlighted how CCG successfully collaborates with Cornwall Council and other education partners to align its curriculum with local skills demands, ensuring students gain the knowledge and training needed for the region’s workforce.
Deputy CEO Mark Wardle was thrilled that Ofsted recognised the expertise of CCG’s teaching staff.
“Our teachers provide exceptional training, ensuring students develop the skills employers need while gaining invaluable personal and professional experiences,” Mark said.
“We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to excellence in education and training, and that we prepare learners and apprentices extremely well for their next stage of education or employment. We care passionately about our students and this was reflected to Ofsted by our students and stakeholders.”
Recognition for Leadership and Governance
Ofsted also acknowledged the crucial role of CCG’s governors, highlighting their “highly ambitious and passionate contribution” to the college’s success.
Dr Patrick Newberry, Chair of Cornwall College Group Board of Governors, said the recognition confirms the college’s impact on education and economic growth in the region.
“The Governors could not be prouder of what has been achieved and, on a personal note, I would like to thank my fellow Governors and the college’s staff for their commitment and dedication, which was noted by the Ofsted team,” Patrick said.
“We look forward to ensuring the college continues to provide outstanding opportunities for learners, apprentices and the wider communities that we serve.”
