According to the post, there are several behind-the-scenes factors that influence whether a new route can be added:

• Passenger demand: The airport surveys traveller needs to help shape discussions with airlines.
• Fleet availability: Airlines must have enough aircraft and crew to operate new routes.
• Slot availability: Both the departure and arrival airports need to have slots available.
• Profitability: A route needs to be sustainable—if it doesn’t make money, it won’t stick.
• Competition: When passengers choose airports like Exeter or Bristol for cheaper fares, airlines take this into account.
