Oddfellows in Redruth and Truro Recall the Second World War with Quiz and Bingo

Members of the Oddfellows Friendship Groups in Redruth and Truro stepped back in time this month, not with sandbags or sirens, but with card bingo and a VE Day-themed quiz to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

A Quiz Worth Fighting For

The event brought out some healthy competition as three members found themselves in a dead heat during the commemorative quiz. A lightning-fast tie-breaker saw just one emerge victorious, walking away with a nostalgic VE Day jigsaw.

Elsewhere, card bingo proved just as popular, with winners snapping up packets of sweets and plenty of laughter filling the room.

Tea, Tips and Tech Talk

As ever, the gatherings offered more than just games. Members enjoyed spring water, cakes, chocolate biscuits and fresh fruit while chatting over tea. The group also received practical summer health tips from the district Welfare Officer, along with information on the upcoming switch from analogue to digital phone lines.

There were take-home puzzles, free new books, and a fundraising raffle in support of a local good cause.

What’s Next for the Oddfellows?

Looking ahead, members can enjoy free chair yoga sessions and a summer outing with lunch. Both events promise more chances for connection and community.
