Greyhound Stars Shine at Redruth Friendship Group Gathering
A Heartwarming Meeting in Redruth
Members and guests of the Oddfellows Friendly Society recently gathered at the Oddfellows Hall in Green Lane, Redruth, for their monthly friendship group meeting. The event featured a fascinating illustrated presentation on the history and heritage of greyhounds, alongside an introduction to the work of the Cornwall Greyhound Trust, which rescues, cares for, and rehomes dogs in need.
The highlight of the day was the presence of the gentle greyhounds themselves. Wandering among the attendees, the charming dogs were the undeniable stars of the show, captivating the audience with their calm and affectionate nature.
Fundraising Success and Community Spirit
Two local Oddfellows members had previously organised a collection for the Cornwall Greyhound Trust, which, combined with proceeds from a well-stocked raffle, raised over £100 to support the charity’s efforts. The funds will go towards the ongoing care and rehoming of greyhounds in Cornwall.
To add to the friendly atmosphere, guests enjoyed teas, coffees, biscuits, fruit, and sweets. Puzzle sheets and free books were also handed out, adding a touch of fun and creativity to the gathering.
Support and Friendship from Oddfellows
The event also highlighted the wide range of support the Oddfellows offers its members, particularly in the winter months. Special brochures detailing these services were distributed to attendees.
The Plymouth and Truro District Oddfellows, part of one of the UK’s oldest and largest friendly societies, actively welcomes new members of all ages and genders. In addition to social events, members benefit from care and welfare support, access to a travel club, and opportunities to volunteer and fundraise.
