Call for Volunteers: Join Your Local Coastguard Rescue Team Today!
The Coastguard Rescue Service (CRS) is actively seeking volunteers for their teams across various strategic locations across Cornwall. This is a pivotal opportunity to engage deeply in community service and ensure the safety of both locals and visitors along our shores.

- Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team
- Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team
- Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team
- St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team
- Mevagissey Coastguard Rescue Team
- Newquay Coastguard Search & Rescue Team
- St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team
- St Martin’s – Isles of Scilly
- St Mary’s – Isles of Scilly
- Tresco – Isles of Scilly
Who Can Apply?
The CRS is looking for committed individuals who are at least 18 years old and possess a full driving licence. Candidates should live near their chosen rescue station, with location-specific requirements available upon inquiry. The role is physically demanding, often in challenging conditions.
Health and Fitness Requirements:
- Weight limit: 120kg
- Maximum waist measurement: 110cm
- Must pass a health and fitness test, including eyesight and hearing assessments
- Certain conditions such as Type 1 diabetes may have activity restrictions
Role Expectations and Training
As a volunteer coastguard rescue officer, one may be required to respond to emergencies at any time, facing challenging and hazardous environments. This unpaid role does allow for the reimbursement of some expenses.
Training Includes:
- First aid
- Water rescue
- Navigation and map work
- Search techniques
- Communications
Safety gear and training are provided to all volunteers to maintain the highest safety standards.
