Prize Draw Ends 31st May – Support Story Days on The Lizard

There’s still time to enter a special prize draw that could win you a week’s stay for two in a stunning Cornish cottage – all while helping children in one of the UK’s most remote regions experience the joy of reading and imagination.

The Story Days Prize Draw, launched on 12th April, is raising money to fund unforgettable school trips for children living on The Lizard. With just over two weeks left until it closes at 10am on Saturday 31st May, organisers are hoping to hit their £5,000 fundraising target.

So far, the draw has raised more than £1,400.

What’s the Prize?

The top prize is a week’s stay for two in the Artist Apartment at Kestle Barton, a beautifully restored one-bedroom cottage tucked away in the peaceful farmstead above Frenchman’s Creek. It’s used for artist residencies and is not normally available as a holiday let.

The lucky winner will be welcomed with a basket of local treats and fresh flowers, plus daily access to the on-site gallery, garden and kitchen produce.

There are also four limited edition landscape prints by Mike McInnerney up for grabs. Mike spent the summer of 2010 painting tree portraits on the nearby footpaths. Two of the original paintings were turned into a run of 100 lithographic prints, and four of these are included in the prize draw. The originals are still on display in the Tea Room at Kestle Barton.

Why It Matters

The money raised supports Story Days, which gives local children the chance to go on creative, imaginative school trips they might not otherwise experience. One teacher described the programme as having “an impact… that is not limited to the day itself but spreads across the year and years afterwards.”

These days out are designed to spark ideas, encourage aspirations, and support literacy in an area where access to cultural activities can be limited.

How to Enter

Each £10 donation counts as one entry into the draw. More entries are given for larger donations: £20 = 3 entries, £50 = 10 entries, and £100 = 25 entries. Free postal entries are also available – details are listed in the ‘terms’ section on the entry page.

The draw closes at 10am on Saturday 31st May 2025.

About Kestle Barton

Kestle Barton is an ancient farmstead above the Helford River, transformed in 2010 through a conservation project into a gallery and arts space. The site now includes holiday cottages, a visitor’s garden and a wildflower meadow, with all profits from the accommodation supporting the gallery’s events and exhibitions.

It is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday and on Bank Holiday Mondays, from 10:30am to 5pm, between 12th April and 1st November 2025.

Your entry into the prize draw will help fund creative, life-shaping experiences for children – and you could win a peaceful getaway in one of Cornwall’s most inspiring spots.
