Surya Yoga Camp returns for its fifteenth year next week

A small but well-loved yoga festival set deep in the Cornish countryside is returning for its fifteenth year next week.

Surya Yoga Camp will run from Friday 23rd May to Tuesday 27th May 2025 at Chyan Cultural Centre near Falmouth. The peaceful eleven-acre site includes wild areas, a nature reserve, and flat meadows for camping, along with two large modern barns and several marquees for workshops and gatherings.

Workshops from Saturday to Tuesday

The first day of the festival is for arrivals only, with visitors welcome from 4pm on Friday. Workshops run across the following four days, from Saturday through to Tuesday. All visitors are expected to depart by 4:30pm on Tuesday.

Founded in 2009 by Amanda Brown and Stephanie Jackson, Surya Yoga Camp has built a reputation as a welcoming space for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers. The focus is on trying out new forms of yoga and movement, and finding harmony within yourself and the world around you.

Families welcome – but no dogs or alcohol

Surya Yoga Camp is designed to be safe and enjoyable for families. The festival is completely drug and alcohol free, and dogs are not allowed. A ‘Peace and quiet time’ begins at 10pm each evening, to help ensure everyone can get a proper rest, particularly those with young children. There are also quieter spaces available for those who want to socialise later into the evening without disrupting the calm.

Every visitor is required to sign a site agreement on arrival, agreeing to the festival’s core policies. Organisers make it clear that if these expectations don’t suit you, there are plenty of other festivals where drinking, smoking and late-night drumming are more welcome.

Teachers selected for their energy and dedication

All of the festival’s teachers are qualified and experienced, and attend on an exchange basis, helping to keep costs low. Organisers say the teachers have been selected for their enthusiasm, skill and dedication to yoga or their chosen discipline.

“Without their generosity of spirit, Surya would be an entirely different event and we thank them for being prepared to offer their services and for bringing their energy to hold the space.”
