Truro College Announces £1.7 Million Construction Facilities Redevelopment
In a significant development for Cornwall’s education and construction industry, Truro and Penwith College has announced a £1.7 million redevelopment project of its construction facilities. This announcement, made during National Apprenticeship Week #NAW2024, marks a milestone in the college’s commitment to enhancing vocational training and education in the region.
The project is set to commence with groundbreaking activities in the February Half Term at Truro College. This redevelopment is supported by a substantial £1.2 million grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and an additional £500,000 from the Department for Education‘s Local Skills Improvement Fund. The new facilities are expected to open their doors to apprentices and full-time learners from September 2024, responding to the increased demand among young individuals seeking to pursue careers in the construction sector through industry-expert-led education.
Martin Tucker, Principal of Truro and Penwith College, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its role in supporting the Cornish industry’s needs while providing unparalleled learning experiences and career opportunities for young people. Tucker stated, “The College is thrilled to continue its work to support the needs of Cornish industry while offering an unrivalled learning experience and career opportunities for young people with this latest multi-million-pound development.”
The initiative underscores the college’s dedication to future-focused training, aiming to equip students with industry-ready skills and to support the construction sector’s evolving requirements. Tucker further emphasised the project’s significance in ensuring that Cornwall’s construction industry can access cutting-edge facilities and highly skilled graduates for years to come.
Applications for enrolment in the new construction programs starting in September 2024 are now open, offering prospective students an opportunity to be part of this innovative learning environment.
