Cornwall College Camborne, a key institution within The Cornwall College Group (TCCG), recently played host to Seema Malhotra, the Shadow Minister for Skills and Further Education, in honour of National Careers Week.

The visit spotlighted the college’s recent £12 million redevelopment and its broad spectrum of vocational training and educational programs.

During her tour of the campus, Seema engaged with both students and staff, diving into discussions about their courses and the broader landscape of the education sector. The visit was characterised by a series of interactive experiences, including practical sessions in bricklaying and virtual reality welding, underlining the college’s emphasis on hands-on learning.

Seema expressed her enthusiasm for the diverse educational opportunities on offer, particularly highlighting sectors such as hair and beauty, construction, engineering, and the creative and digital industries. She stressed the importance of investment in colleges and the alignment of courses with future job market demands, indicating a forward-looking approach to vocational education.

John Evans, the Principal and Chief Executive of TCCG, and Luke Bazeley, the Head of Campus, alongside Perran Moon, a local Labour Party parliamentary candidate, accompanied Seema throughout her visit. Both John and Luke emphasised the significance of the Shadow Minister’s visit as an excellent opportunity to showcase the campus’s state-of-the-art facilities and the talent nurtured within the college’s walls.

The visit, according to Luke, not only highlights the college’s national recognition but also follows closely on the heels of a visit from the Prime Minister earlier in February. These high-profile visits underscore the college’s role in addressing key challenges in the education sector and spearheading meaningful change for its learners.

Cornwall College Camborne continues to invite interest in its diverse range of courses, encouraging prospective students to explore the opportunities available for advancing their skills and careers. For more information, the college’s offerings can be explored at cornwall.ac.uk.
