Cornwall Homebuilder’s Generous Contribution to Magic Breakfast

Cornwall’s Barratt David Wilson Homes has successfully raised over £1,600 to support Magic Breakfast, a charity dedicated to providing nutritious morning meals to vulnerable children in England and Scotland. This significant effort took part in the charity’s Great Big Breakfast event which occurred across several housing developments and the head office in February.

A Morning of Meals and Merriment

During the Great Big Breakfast, teams from various sites, including onsite construction teams and head office staff, came together to cook and enjoy hearty breakfasts. Some chose to whip up dishes on the spot while others brought in freshly made baps from local vendors, all contributing small donations to partake. This collective effort raised an impressive £1,622 in just one morning, demonstrating a strong community spirit and commitment to the cause.

Doubling the Impact

In an exciting turn of events, the amount raised was matched by The Barratt Foundation, bringing the total donation to £3,244. This substantial sum will fund over 11,000 breakfasts, each costing just 28p, showcasing the profound impact even small contributions can have on combating child hunger.

Tackling a Growing Problem

With statistics showing that one in four children in the UK faced hunger in 2023, initiatives like these are more vital than ever. The partnership between The Barratt Foundation and Magic Breakfast, established in October 2023, aims to inject £500,000 into the charity over the next two years, further supporting its mission to ensure no child starts their school day hungry.

Andrew Spicer, managing director at the Exeter office, praised Magic Breakfast for their “crucial work nationwide, particularly for children in disadvantaged areas”. He highlighted the importance of the charity’s efforts in helping schools support students who face daily challenges due to hunger.

Alongside their charitable efforts, Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes continue to develop essential new housing at Treledan in Saltash, Cornwall.
