Discover a World of Jewels: New Children’s Book Inspired by Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula
Cornwall’s dramatic Lizard peninsula has inspired a new children’s book that promises to transport readers into a colourful world of jewels, wisdom, and adventure.
From The Lizard to a World of Discovery
Belinda Jane Robinson’s Me and My Diamond tells the tale of Molly and Joe, two children who embark on an extraordinary journey after discovering a mysterious map in their grandmother Binny’s suitcase. Guided by Binny, the Lightkeeper, and their family cat Charlie, the siblings explore the continents, learning life lessons symbolised by dazzling jewels.
Their week-long journey takes them across the globe: Africa on Monday, Australia and Oceania on Tuesday, the Middle East and Eurasia on Wednesday, Asia on Thursday, North America on Friday, South America on Saturday, and Europe on Sunday. Each destination reveals new “jewels of wisdom” to guide them through life’s challenges.
The book is brought to life with illustrations by Jenny Everett, a local artist whose original artwork complements Belinda Jane’s vivid storytelling.
Inspired by The Lizard’s Natural Beauty
Belinda Jane’s own transformative journey began on Cornwall’s serpentine cliffs. After experiencing personal trauma, she was invited by a friend to stay near The Lizard.
“I then spent nearly two years being inspired by regular walks on The Lizard’s wonderful serpentine cliffs,” said Belinda Jane.
A frequent visitor to the Polpeor Café, she described how gazing out to sea helped her imagine the vast world beyond the cliffs. “In the distance, I could see the Lizard Point lighthouse standing in a field of beautiful wildflowers. A beacon of diamond light gently rotating, reflecting rainbow colours and standing as a symbol of refuge and hope,” she added.
These experiences shaped the narrative of Me and My Diamond, where Molly and Joe discover their own resilience and understanding of life’s challenges.

Belinda Jane will be signing copies of Me and My Diamond at the Helford Sailing Club Christmas Fair on Saturday, 23 November, from 11am.
The book, which Belinda Jane describes as a gift for her grandchildren and other families, is available online at www.meandmydiamond.com.
A Gift for Families Everywhere
With its enchanting story and stunning illustrations, Me and My Diamond offers a captivating reading experience for children and parents alike. For anyone seeking a meaningful gift this Christmas, the book promises to inspire imaginations and spread a message of hope and wisdom.
