Could These Simple Changes Save You Money on Your Water Bill This Winter?
As winter settles in and the cost-of-living crisis continues to pinch household budgets, South West Water is stepping in with practical advice and support to help customers save money on their water bills.
The water company has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping bills low and encouraging water efficiency by unveiling a £200 million financial support package as part of its 2025-2030 business plan. This move is part of a wider £3.2 billion investment in the South West aimed at improving services and addressing customers’ key concerns.
Helping Households Stay on Top of Their Bills
South West Water’s Director of Customer Care, Ketan Hindocha, emphasised the importance of accessible support, saying:
“It is more important than ever that customers receive the support they need while we continue to work hard to keep bills low. There are currently 45,000 people receiving support from one of our support tariffs and we encourage anyone who is struggling to pay their bill to get in touch.”
The company’s support options include payment flexibility, water-saving advice, and free devices designed to reduce water usage.
Top Tips for Saving Money on Your Water Bill
South West Water has outlined several ways for customers to reduce their water usage and manage costs more effectively:
1. Consider Installing a Water Meter
Switching to a water meter can help customers save money by paying only for the water they use. The company’s “Lowest Bill Guarantee” offers peace of mind – if customers don’t save money within two years, they will be refunded the difference and can switch back at any time.
2. Leak Detection and Support
Meters can also help identify leaks on a property by indicating increased water usage. South West Water offers assistance in detecting and fixing leaks, which could include financial support for repairs and covering some of the cost of lost water.
3. Flexible Payment Options
For customers who prefer to spread the cost, South West Water provides flexible payment plans that allow bills to be paid weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.
4. Free Water-Saving Devices
From shower timers to flow-reducing showerheads, South West Water offers a range of free water-saving devices. These small changes can make a noticeable difference in household water consumption.
5. Simple Ways to Reduce Water Use
Small actions, such as only running the washing machine when it’s full or swapping a hosepipe for a watering can, can help reduce water use – especially important for those on a meter, where every litre saved contributes to a lower bill.
