Cornwall College St Austell Launches “My Cornwall” Art and Photography Competition for Young Creatives
Cornwall College St Austell is inviting local school pupils aged 11 to 19 to participate in a new art and photography competition named ‘My Cornwall’. This initiative aims to celebrate the natural beauty and rich culture of Cornwall by encouraging young artists and photographers to showcase their interpretation of what makes the county unique.
The ‘My Cornwall’ competition is open to submissions that capture anything from Cornwall’s stunning landscapes to its vibrant communities, reflecting the diverse inspirations that the region offers. This presents a remarkable opportunity for aspiring artists and photographers to explore and express their creativity through their chosen medium.
Anneka Wass, the curriculum area manager at Cornwall College’s Creative & Digital Academy, highlighted the significance of the competition. She expressed excitement about providing a platform for young creatives to engage with their surroundings in a meaningful and rewarding manner. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer an opportunity for aspiring creatives to explore their creativity in a way that is both meaningful and rewarding while celebrating the beauty and diversity of our region,” said Wass.
The most outstanding entry will receive the prestigious chance to exhibit their work at Truro Cathedral as part of Cornwall College St Austell’s end-of-year exhibition, alongside college students. This will offer the winner unparalleled exposure and the chance to present their work to a wider audience. Additional prizes include online shopping vouchers, further incentivising participation.
Entrants can submit their artwork via email to staustell@cornwall.ac.uk or by dropping it off at the reception of Cornwall College St Austell campus. All submissions must be received by March 15th, 2024, and should include the participant’s name, address, school or college, and contact number, ensuring their work is properly accredited.
‘My Cornwall’ stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to nurturing creativity and talent among its youth. Through this competition, Cornwall College St Austell not only celebrates the inherent beauty and culture of Cornwall but also fosters a sense of community and pride among its young residents.
