Cornish Students’ Research Earns Spark of Inspiration Award in Thailand
Camborne Academy Students Recognised for Groundbreaking Environmental Study
A team of talented students from Camborne Science & International Academy (CSIA) have won the prestigious Spark of Inspiration Award at the International Students Science Fair (ISSF) in Thailand.
Lily B, Jem C, and Milly T represented CSIA at the event, held at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School in Bangkok, where they presented their research, “E-Liquid in the UK’s Waterways – A Recipe for Disaster for Daphnia?”. The study examined the impact of e-liquids on aquatic life in the UK’s rivers and streams.
The team showcased their findings through both a poster display and an oral presentation, impressing judges and participants alike. Their work was recognised for its innovative approach and potential to influence global environmental policies.
A Royal Welcome and Cultural Discoveries
The students’ experience in Thailand extended beyond the science fair. They had the honour of meeting Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the event’s opening ceremony.
Throughout the week, they took part in workshops, excursions, and cultural activities, including visits to traditional Thai temples, bustling markets, and vibrant performances. Their adventure also took them to Hong Islands National Park in southern Thailand, where they explored by long-tail boat and immersed themselves in the local culture.
CSIA Principal Commends Students’ Achievements
Emma Haase, Principal of Camborne Science & International Academy, praised the students, saying:
“We are incredibly proud of Lily, Jem, and Milly for their hard work, dedication, and passion for science. Their success at the International Students Science Fair is a testament to their commitment and the exceptional quality of their research. This experience has not only given them the chance to engage with cutting-edge science but has also opened their eyes to different cultures and international collaboration. They truly embody the spirit of innovation and global citizenship that we aim to create at CSIA.”
An Unforgettable Learning Experience
CSIA, part of Athena Learning Trust, is a secondary comprehensive school in Camborne, Cornwall, recognised for its strong academic standards. The academy is rated Outstanding for Sixth Form provision and Good for Quality of Education, Behaviour, Personal Development, and Leadership.
