Two Bands, One Goal: Fundraiser for Cornish Nurse Running London Marathon for Heart Unit
A Cornish nurse at Treliske is taking on the London Marathon to raise £2,000 for the Cornish Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), which supports life-saving work at the Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Cardiology department.
Kara’s Mission to Support Cardiology
Kara, a Deputy Sister at the Cardiac Catheter Labs in Truro, has dedicated her career to Cardiology since 2011. From placing pacemakers to unblocking arteries during heart attacks, Kara’s team is at the forefront of critical care.
Her goal is to raise £2,000 for CHUF, part of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, which funds projects that enhance patient care, improve facilities, and support staff development within Cardiology. Speaking about the fundraising effort, Kara said:
“The London Marathon is something I have always wanted to do. It’s going to be a challenge as it’s a lot further than I usually run! What a charity to be doing it for too!”
A Night to Remember at Carharrack Social Club
To help Kara reach her goal, a fundraising event is being held on Saturday 14th December at 8pm at Carharrack Social Club. For just £5 cash on the door, attendees can enjoy performances from two local bands, Blue Eyed Candy and The Mighty Howlers.
Both bands are donating their time, and the venue has waived its fees, ensuring that 100% of proceeds go directly to CHUF.

Supporting a Life-Saving Service
Funds raised will help support Cardiology services at Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital in Hayle, and West Cornwall Hospital in Penzance. CHUF donations enable the hospitals to provide exceptional care, fund equipment, and enhance training for staff.
Kara’s passion for her work and her dedication to improving patient experiences drive her marathon challenge. As she puts it:
“We have all used the hospital’s services at some point in our lives! It’s so important to us all.”
How to Support Kara
If you can’t make the event, you can still support Kara’s fundraising efforts by donating through her JustGiving page: Kara’s London Marathon 2025.
Every penny raised will go towards supporting vital work that could touch the lives of many Cornish residents in their time of need.
Mark your calendars and join the community in supporting Kara’s incredible efforts!
