Team Imerys Raises Over £5,800 for Cancer Research UK at Pretty Muddy Challenge

A team of 37 employees from Imerys took part in the Pretty Muddy 5K at Stithians in May, raising more than £5,800 for Cancer Research UK.

The event, held in Cornwall, featured a 5km obstacle course that had participants crawling, climbing and sliding through muddy terrain. Team Imerys raised funds through a mix of bake sales, craft fairs, a raffle, and donations.

Colleagues Come Together

Team organiser Hannah Cutlan said the idea started after she completed the event solo in 2024.

“Having taken on the muddy run individually in 2024, I knew it would be even more fun with a group,” said Hannah. “After gaining a lot of interest from my colleagues within Imerys and talks of fundraisers, we couldn’t have anticipated raising over £5,800.”

She also praised local companies for their support.

“Alongside a huge amount of support from the runners and fellow employees to reach this fantastic total, we also had a huge amount of wonderful raffle donations from local companies.

“One of the highlights for all was bringing Imerys’ colleagues together from different departments and sites, resulting in a fantastic atmosphere on the day. I am so proud of all involved.”

Inspired by Marie’s Journey

The group were motivated by fellow colleague Marie Timms, who also took part in the challenge. Marie was diagnosed with cervical cancer in July 2024 and underwent extensive treatment. By March, her follow-up scans showed no evidence of disease, and she is now in remission.

Marie said: “Sharing my journey has not only helped me process my diagnosis, but I hope it helps others too. If my experience can make even a small difference in someone else’s life, then it’s been worth it. I’m always here if anyone needs support or just a chat—it’s good to talk.”
