Surprise Marmalade Donation Stuns Charity Race Night Crowd

Published On: 1 May 2025Last Updated: 1 May 2025By

A seemingly ordinary evening turned heartwarming when homemade preserves stole the spotlight at a recent charity event.

A Sweet Surprise for a Worthy Cause

Guests at the Provincial Grand Chapter of Cornwall’s Charity Race Night on 22nd March witnessed a touching moment as Grand Superintendent Excellent Companion Jon Arnold was called forward to accept a special donation. Margaret Reeve, who has spent the past three years crafting marmalade to raise money for Masonic Charities, presented Jon with a cheque for £500.

Margaret’s homemade marmalade has become a beloved part of fundraising for causes such as the 2024 Festival. This year, she chose to dedicate the proceeds from her sales to the Chapter Charity Fund, supporting charitable efforts close to the hearts of many within the Masonic community.

A Night of Generosity

Jon expressed gratitude to Margaret and acknowledged the many others who contributed to the evening’s success. Supporters played their part by purchasing horses, sponsoring races, or making direct donations, even if they couldn’t attend the event in person. Their collective efforts helped raise a total of £1,952 on the night.

Marmalade With Meaning

Margaret’s dedication shows how simple gestures can make a lasting impact. Her marmalade does more than please the palate—it has become a symbol of generosity and community spirit. The £500 raised through her efforts added a special touch to an evening already full of charitable goodwill.

As the Provincial Grand Chapter of Cornwall continues its fundraising work, Margaret’s marmalade remains a sweet reminder that small actions can lead to big results.
