Pasty Power: Cornish Bakery’s £5,000 Donation Transforms Care at St Julia’s Hospice
Cornish Oven’s Generous Gift
Cornwall Hospice Care has received a substantial donation of £5,000 from local bakery, The Cornish Oven, marking the 25th anniversary of the popular Cornish pasty company. The funds are being used to purchase a much-needed shower bed for St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle and will also provide over 100 hours of essential nursing care.
The donation was celebrated during a visit by The Cornish Oven team, who were accompanied by their mascot, Percy Pasty, as they presented the cheque to the hospice. Giles Williams, the owner of The Cornish Oven, expressed his gratitude towards the local community for their support over the years, stating that St Julia’s Hospice was chosen due to the significant impact it has had on many lives in the area.
A Meaningful Contribution
Anna Heacock, Ward Sister at St Julia’s, highlighted the importance of the donation, noting that the new shower bed will greatly enhance the comfort and dignity of the patients. “A simple shower can mean a lot to someone,” Anna said, expressing her appreciation for The Cornish Oven’s thoughtful contribution.
The funds will also ensure that more patients can benefit from the high level of care provided by Cornwall Hospice Care’s dedicated staff. Erica Vitai, Philanthropy Manager at the charity, emphasised the crucial role that community support plays in their work. She extended her thanks to The Cornish Oven, acknowledging that the donation will have a lasting impact on the patients and their families.
