Paddy’s “Share the Love” Campaign Surpasses Fundraising Goal

Paddy, a 12-year-old dog who has become a well-known and cherished figure at the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) Cornwall, recently marked a significant milestone of spending 973 days in rescue. To honour this occasion and the spirit of Valentine’s Day, NAWT Cornwall launched the “Share the Love” campaign, aiming to raise £1 for each day Paddy has been under their care. The initiative has successfully exceeded its goal, raising £1,072, reflecting the community’s strong support for animal welfare.

Arriving at the rescue centre 973 days ago, Paddy’s journey has been one of resilience and hope. Recognised by many supporters, his story sheds light on the realities faced by animals in rescue centres. Paddy’s prolonged wait for a forever home is attributed to his age and specific behavioural needs, including resource guarding and discomfort with being touched—challenges that the NAWT Cornwall team has committed to managing with care and understanding to ensure Paddy’s happiness.

The “Share the Love” campaign is not only a celebration of Paddy finding his second chance at happiness but also an acknowledgement of the ongoing needs of countless other cats and dogs that come to rescue. With an ever-growing waiting list and more animals in need of second chances, the campaign underscores the importance of community support in providing for these animals.

NAWT Cornwall’s dedication to animal welfare is evident in their remarkable achievement of rescuing and rehoming over 200 cats and dogs annually, recently reaching a milestone of 5,000 total animals rescued. Paddy’s story and the success of the “Share the Love” campaign highlight the collective effort required to support animals in need and celebrate each milestone, no matter how small.

The outpouring of support for Paddy and the campaign has been overwhelming, with the community playing a vital role in not only contributing financially but also in being a part of the journey of many more animals awaiting their chance at happiness. NAWT Cornwall extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of Paddy’s journey and continues to support their mission of rescue and rehoming.
