New Charity, Sunrise, to Launch with Music Fundraiser in Cornwall
In a heartwarming response to the tragic impact of suicide, Cornwall is set to witness the launch of Sunrise, a pioneering charity dedicated to offering solace and support through music, art, and well-being activities. Founded by Elliott and Serena Jolly, the charity emerged from a personal tragedy—the loss of Serena’s younger brother, Sonny, to suicide in January 2019. In his memory, Sunrise aims to create a nurturing environment for those grappling with similar losses.
The official launch of Sunrise is scheduled for Friday, 1st March, at the Redruth Rugby Club. The event, starting at 7 pm, is not just a fundraiser but a celebration of life and community spirit, promising an unforgettable night of music and camaraderie. Headlining the event is The Best of Grohl, a tribute band honouring the legendary rock icon Dave Grohl, with performances covering hits from Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Probot, and Them Crooked Vultures.
Adding to the night’s allure are performances by The Horizons, known for their compelling indie sound characterised by big guitar riffs and catchy lyrics, and Scenic Route, a professional Cornish acoustic duo who will enchant attendees with their modern and classic hits. The evening will be capped off by DJ Ry Golds, a favourite in the Cornish club and festival scene, who will weave indie and rock classics into his set.
Beyond the music, the event will feature a raffle with enticing prizes, including tickets to The Great Estate Festival, and the opportunity for attendees to have unique caricatures done by Cornwall Caricatures, with proceeds going to Sunrise. Tickets are available online, with advanced bookings encouraged to secure a spot at this noteworthy event.
Sunrise’s vision is a Cornwall where the shadow cast by suicide loss is met with a community ready to support, uplift, and provide hope. Its values emphasise reducing the stigma surrounding suicide, fostering community connections, and promoting hope and positivity through creative expression. By attending the launch, participants will not only enjoy a night filled with exceptional music but also contribute to a cause that aims to make a significant difference in the lives of up to 10,800 people affected by suicide loss each year in Cornwall.
The launch and fundraiser for Sunrise promise to be a cornerstone event, setting the stage for the charity to offer regular, free events and workshops, and to train facilitators who can guide those touched by suicide loss towards a path of healing and resilience.
