Learning Disability Drama Group’s Spring Show Set to Sell Out – Here’s What They’re Performing
Wadebridge Drama Llamas return with ‘A Night at the Musicals’
A drama group of adults with learning disabilities is preparing to wow audiences once again as they gear up for their sell-out spring show in Wadebridge this May.
Locally loved and back on stage
The Wadebridge Drama Llamas, supported by the charity Hft, are getting ready to perform A Night at the Musicals at Wadebridge Social Club on 15th May. Doors open at 1.30pm for a 2pm start, with tickets priced at £5.
Tickets are expected to go quickly, as the group’s annual performance is always a popular event in the local calendar. To book, email thomas.robertson@hft.org.uk or call 01208 815581.
A show chosen by the performers themselves
Each of the Drama Llamas has selected a favourite musical number to perform, with classics from Mamma Mia, Fiddler on the Roof and We Will Rock You all set to feature.
Darren, who is supported by Hft at the Wadebridge Resource Centre, will be taking on Singing in the Rain.
“I will be performing Singing in the Rain because I love the song,” said Darren. “I will be holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat. I’m really looking forward to singing it for everyone. I love singing – I do it all the time – and I really love being part of the Drama Llamas and look forward to our meeting every week.”
More than just a performance
As well as rehearsing every Thursday, the group creates all the costumes, sets and props themselves at the Hft Resource Centre.
The Drama Llamas are supported by Hft support workers Lynsey Crowley and Jennifer Grout-Collister. For Lynsey, this will be her first production with the group.
“It’s shaping up to be a really good show,” said Lynsey. “Every year, local people look forward to the show and the tickets get snapped up quickly when they go on sale. It’s always well supported by the local community and sells out.”
A history of creative performances
The Wadebridge Drama Llamas have been running for nine years, with previous shows including Grease and Jack and the Beanstalk.
The group is part of Hft’s ongoing work to support learning disabled adults to live the best life possible, offering personalised support and opportunities for creativity and independence.
