Lace Up for a Festive Challenge: Cornwall’s Reindeer Run Returns This January!

Kick off 2025 with Fun, Fitness, and Festive Cheer

Cornwall residents are invited to support the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) this winter by participating in the RNLI Cornwall Reindeer Run. The event takes place at Par Athletics Track on Saturday, 4th January 2025, offering an opportunity to get active while backing the volunteer lifeboat crews who dedicate their time to saving lives at sea.

A Lifesaving Cause

The RNLI’s volunteer crews work tirelessly, even during the festive season. In 2023, lifeboat stations across Cornwall launched five times between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, with 17 launches recorded across the South West region. Volunteers are on call throughout the holidays, ready to leave their celebrations at a moment’s notice to respond to emergencies.

Run or Saunter – There’s a Distance for Everyone

Event organiser Esther Farrant, Community Manager for Cornwall, is thrilled to bring this festive challenge to the county.

“We’re delighted to be hosting this event. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or looking to complete your first race, there’s a distance for everyone,” said Esther.

Participants can choose between the 5K Reindeer Run, which combines the athletics track with a scenic green trail, or the 2K Santa Saunter, designed as a relaxed, family-friendly option. Both routes will be supported by a team of RNLI volunteer marshals, ensuring participants are cheered on every step of the way.

Dress to Impress

To make the day even more special, participants are encouraged to don their best festive outfits. A prize will be awarded for the best fancy dress, adding an extra layer of fun to the event.

“Be sure to wear your best festive-themed attire and lace up your running shoes for a day filled with exercise, holiday spirit, and plenty of fun activities for all ages,” added Esther.
