Handmade Teddies and Hearts to Help Families at Little Harbour
In a heartwarming gesture of community support, Dignity Ken Newcombe Funeral Directors in St Austell has extended a helping hand to Little Harbour, a children’s hospice that provides care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions across the South West. This week, Sam, the funeral director at Dignity Ken Newcombe, paid a visit to the hospice to discuss a thoughtful campaign aimed at supporting families.
Knitted Teddies for Comfort and Connection
Sam’s campaign involves creating knitted and crocheted sets of teddies and hearts. These sets, made by her mother, are intended to help families stay connected. Each set consists of two hearts and two teddies, all crafted from the same ball of wool. This allows siblings and parents who may not always be together due to a child’s life-limiting condition to each have a tangible reminder of their bond. Sam’s mother initially made four different coloured sets for the hospice, and they are open to customising the sets to suit the families’ wishes.
Little Harbour’s Support for Families
Little Harbour offers a much-needed respite for families, providing a home-away-from-home where they can take a break from the constant challenges of caring for a child with complex needs. The hospice offers not only respite care but also emergency and palliative care in a peaceful, homely environment. This gives families the opportunity to recharge while their children receive the best possible care.
Donation Support for a Worthy Cause
Recognising the impact of these handmade sets, several families have inquired about making donations. In response, Dignity Ken Newcombe has placed a donation box in their reception area, enabling the community to support Little Harbour’s ongoing work.
