Steven Webb takes to the sea to explore new territory for the Cornwall 500 Challenge

Steven Webb, the man behind the Cornwall 500 Challenge, took an unexpected detour from his journey around the Cornish coast yesterday, trading the roads for the sea with a day trip to the Isles of Scilly. Setting sail on the Scillonian III, Steven’s voyage marked the first time he had ventured to the islands, despite being a lifelong resident of Cornwall.

A Memorable First Visit

Steven, who has lived in Cornwall all his life, admitted he was initially anxious about the trip but was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the experience was. “For some reason, I thought it would be a somewhat difficult adventure,” he said. “However, it turned out to be completely the opposite—a seamless and enjoyable day.” He praised the crew of the Scillonian III and Isles of Scilly Travel for their support, which made the day stress-free.

The weather was on Steven’s side, providing calm seas for both crossings. His brief visit allowed him to explore most of St Mary’s island, distributing the special Challenge plaques and engaging with both residents and visitors. Steven described the Isles of Scilly as “a calm and peaceful mini version of Cornwall, with all the best bits in one place.”

Welcoming the Isles of Scilly to the Cornwall 500

Steven’s visit was not just about sightseeing. The Cornwall 500 Challenge aims to raise funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance, and Steven was delighted to see the level of support for the charity on the islands. “It became very clear just how cherished the Cornwall Air Ambulance is by both the islanders and visitors,” he noted. “It means that in an emergency, the islands are within just 28 minutes of a service that can deliver more than just a paramedic.”

Steven’s journey, now in its third week, continues to captivate followers as he explores the beauty and diversity of Cornwall. His adventure can be tracked live each day at Locatoweb from 10:15 am. More details are also available on the Cornwall 500 website.
