Alan Jervis, Head of Education for the NHS Foundation Trust, has successfully completed his arduous ‘Around Cornwall Challenge,’ raising substantial funds for charity in the process.

A Marathon Effort

Alan embarked on the demanding task of traversing the entire Cornish coast path, a journey covering over 340 miles on foot. The challenge took two weeks to complete, with Alan walking and running approximately 25 miles each day. Carrying a 13kg backpack, he camped out most evenings and stayed with friends on other occasions.

Overwhelming Support and Emotional Finish

Alan’s efforts culminated in an emotional finish in Porthtowan on Saturday, where he was greeted by family and friends. The Truro Male Choir serenaded the gathered crowd with a rendition of ‘Trelawny’.

“To have everyone here, having the choir here singing has just been fantastic. To see family and friends, it really does mean a lot,” Alan remarked. He described the end of his journey as a significant relief after overcoming numerous challenges, particularly during the first week.

Surpassing Fundraising Goals

Raising money for three local charities – Penhaligon’s Friends, Cornwall Mind, and Touch Eldoret – Alan initially set a target of £1,000. However, he has already surpassed this goal, raising over £3,000 with donations still being accepted.

“I really appreciate every donation that comes in. When I was feeling really low and feeling really tired, the donations coming in kept me going,” Alan shared. With over 150 contributors so far, the funds will significantly impact the charities’ efforts.

Looking Forward to Home Comforts

After the intense two-week challenge, Alan looked forward to some much-deserved home comforts. “I think I’ve got a steak dinner with some red wine. And I will just relax a little,” he said.

Alan expressed profound gratitude to all who supported his cause and encouraged further donations via his ‘GiveWheel’ page, emphasizing the critical impact even small donations have on the local charities he supports.

For those wishing to contribute, donations can still be made by visiting Alan’s ‘GiveWheel’ page.
