£3,000 Boost for Newquay Foodbank – Could More Businesses Follow?
Builders Support Local Foodbank
The developers behind the Trevithick Manor Park housing project have donated £3,000 to Newquay Foodbank, providing much-needed support for local people facing hardship.
Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon presented the cheque at the Parish Church of St Michael the Archangel, where food parcels are distributed to those in need. The donation was made in the presence of local councillor Louis Gardner.
Helping People Get Back on Their Feet
Founded in 2011, Newquay Foodbank helps individuals and families struggling to afford food and other essential items. As well as providing immediate assistance, the organisation works with other agencies to create long-term support plans to help people regain stability.
Ruby Bridge, Financial Inclusion Lead at Newquay Foodbank, welcomed the donation, saying:
“Persimmon’s donation is a massive help for us and will go a long way in helping local people in need. I want to extend my thanks to them for choosing us for this donation as well as to our brilliant volunteers who make sure our operation runs seamlessly.”
A Business Giving Back
Persimmon’s donation comes through its Community Champions scheme, which distributes £700,000 annually to good causes across Britain. Other local recipients of the scheme include Home Start Kernow and Cornwall Air Ambulance.
Jane Cartwright, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the local community, stating:
*”We are very pleased to have been able to provide support to people in Newquay who are most in need – times are hard for many at the moment and we are happy to lend a helping hand.
“Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative is all about supporting the communities and people in which we build, and the Foodbank is a deserving recipient in the town.
“The cost-of-living challenges are hitting a number of families and with our Trevithick Manor Park site nearby, we want to ensure that the service is there for whoever might need that support locally.”*
Councillor’s Praise for the Donation
Louis Gardner, councillor for Newquay Central and Pentire, also expressed his appreciation for the donation, while acknowledging the challenges many in the community are facing:
*”I am grateful to see a large business that is as active in Cornwall as Persimmon lend a helping hand to such a valued organisation as Newquay Foodbank.
“It is obviously a tragedy that food banks are needed in our society, but I am glad that the community has pulled together to help each other like this, and I thank Persimmon for doing their part in this.”*
Homes Available at Trevithick Manor Park
Persimmon’s Trevithick Manor Park development will bring 160 new homes to the area, with properties ranging from one to four bedrooms. Homes are available for purchase from £241,500.
Would other businesses in Cornwall step up to support foodbanks like Newquay’s? With the cost of living continuing to impact families, such donations could make a vital difference.
