TV presenter Fern Britton, known for hosting This Morning and Ready Steady Cook, returned to Cornwall to officially reopen the newly refurbished Little Acorns Preschool, located between Penponds and Barripper near Camborne. The preschool, which underwent a major refurbishment over the summer, celebrated its fresh start with a special event featuring Fern as the guest of honour.

£198,000 Refurbishment

The preschool’s extensive renovation was made possible by a £198,000 grant from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly were allocated £137 million through this fund for local investment projects, and Little Acorns Preschool was one of the beneficiaries.

The refurbishment included several key improvements such as a revamped playroom, a quiet area for sensory breaks and napping, outdoor decking with a canopy for all-weather play, and a better office space. The transformation was vital for the preschool, as the ageing building had become damp and unsuitable for the children.

Official Reopening

During the reopening event, Fern Britton was invited to judge both a Halloween picture and pumpkin carving competition before joining Frank Burbery, the chairperson of Little Acorns Preschool, to declare the newly renovated building open.

Claire King, manager at Little Acorns, explained the importance of the project:

“This refurbishment was essential; the ageing building was no longer fit for purpose. It was incredibly damp and wouldn’t have survived another winter. Thanks to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund grant we now have a wonderful facility for the children who attend Little Acorns Preschool to enjoy.”

She also noted that the refurbishment work took place during the summer holidays, ensuring minimal disruption for the children and their families.

A Bright Future for Little Acorns

Little Acorns Preschool caters for children aged 18 months and above, offering care during term time from 8.45 am to 3.15 pm on weekdays. The new facilities promise an enhanced experience for the young children who attend.
