Reusable Gift Tokens: The Perfect Present from Camborne’s Jojangles
Jo Weller, the creative mind behind Jojangles, a handmade jewellery and gift shop in Camborne, has introduced reusable gift tokens designed to feel like a thoughtful and tangible present. These tokens, packaged in small handmade pouches, are a sustainable alternative to traditional vouchers.
Jo explained the inspiration behind her creation: “A voucher is a nice gift but it’s flat and can be forgotten – whereas these pouches make a great gift as they contain the illusion of coins that can be kept in a bag or pocket.” The tokens, which were developed with the help of a friend using a 3D printer, promote recycling and can be used repeatedly.
Expanding Creativity with Camborne Town Deal Grant
As a recipient of a grant through Camborne Town Deal’s Project A-Void, Jo invested in sewing and embroidery machines to expand her product range. These machines not only aid in making the pouches for her gift tokens but also enable her to produce other items such as memory bears, glasses cases, doorstops, and Cornish tartan creations.
Jo shared, “The town deal development grant enabled me to buy the equipment I needed to create more products like memory bears, glasses cases, doorstops, Cornish tartan items and so much more.” She also noted how the local support has been instrumental in her success: “Camborne is a friendly town, and I’ve had a lot of support from my customers and friends.”
A Business Built on Community Spirit
Jojangles, a winner of Camborne’s Best Local Business title for the last two years, continues to grow under Jo’s leadership. She opened the shop after years of selling her handmade items at markets and events, including the weekly Camborne Square produce market.
This festive season, Jo has crafted a large hare doorstop as the prize for a raffle to raise money for Marie Curie South West. “So far, more than 200 tickets have been sold at a cost of £1 each,” she said.
Pioneering Innovation in Camborne
Project A-Void, part of the Camborne Town Deal managed by BID Camborne, has supported local businesses like Jojangles through grants aimed at fostering innovation and growth.
Anna Pascoe, BID Camborne Manager, highlighted the impact of Jo’s grant-funded initiative: “Camborne has a long and proud history of invention and Jo’s gift tokens follow that tradition. Each coin has a chip inside it so it can’t be reproduced and, when a customer cashes it in, the token can be used for someone else. It’s wonderful that the business grant Jo received has helped fund this innovation, and the BID team wishes her continued success going forward.”
