Crime Crackdown in Camborne: Businesses Unite with New Reporting System

Published On: 6 February 2025Last Updated: 6 February 2025By

A new crime-fighting tool is helping businesses in Camborne work together to tackle criminal and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Instant Alerts and Police Collaboration

BID Camborne’s Business Intelligence Scheme (BID:BIS), launched in October, allows businesses to use a licensed app to share alerts, report incidents, and log intelligence in real time. Reports are officially logged by an administrator and shared with the police, helping to create a coordinated response to crime.

One of the early successes of BID:BIS was identifying the person responsible for damaging a mural funded by Camborne Town Deal. That individual has now been charged, and the graffiti has been removed. Other offenders have also been arrested, with court orders issued.

“We’re really pleased it’s working so well and would like to thank PC James Tompson in particular for being so actively involved on the app,” said BID Camborne Manager Anna Pascoe.

“Everyone is working together to tackle crime in the town centre and, by presenting a united front, we’re sending out a strong message that bad behaviour is not tolerated in Camborne.”

Rewarding Participation

To encourage continued engagement, BID Camborne is introducing a monthly league table to recognise the most active users.

“Points will be scored for logging in, reporting an incident, sharing intelligence, uploading photos and encouraging other members to sign up,” said Anna.

“The user with the most points in a month will be awarded a £10 gift voucher to spend in a Camborne business of their choice.

“Counting starts this February.”

The scheme, operated by Littoralis and also known as Disc, is already making a difference in Camborne, bringing businesses together to create a safer town centre.
