App-based system set to enhance safety in town centre

BID Camborne has announced its investment in a new app-based tool designed to help local businesses report crime and anti-social behaviour more effectively. Named BID (BID Camborne Business Intelligence Scheme), the initiative utilises the Disc system, already in use in over 500 towns and city centres across the UK.

Improving Communication and Reporting

The Disc system aims to reduce criminal behaviour through improved communication about local troublemakers and noteworthy incidents. It features an instant messaging system that is compliant with data protection regulations, allowing users to stay informed and escalate reports directly to the police if necessary.

BID directors had initially hoped to secure financial contributions and collaborative support to purchase the system but were unable to do so. Despite these challenges, the BID team have managed to fully fund a pilot year of BID independently.

Supporting Local Businesses

Samantha Hussey, Chair of BID Camborne, emphasised the importance of safeguarding businesses and the town centre from criminal activity. “Our budget is limited, but it’s clear that criminal behaviour is affecting our levy payers and their customers, and we need to do everything we can to resolve that issue,” she said. “Disc empowers communities to share information about incidents and offenders and is the most widely used system in the UK. We’ve been very impressed by its effectiveness in other areas and believe it’s worth the expense of a trial year.”

Commitment to Safety

According to Samantha, ensuring the safety of Camborne’s businesses and public areas is a priority. “Safeguarding businesses and public areas in Camborne is paramount, and we’re delighted to be going ahead with this BID scheme. We can’t afford not to,” she added.
