Big Change for School Dinners: Camborne Science and International Academy Brings Catering In-House
Fresh, Nutritious and Locally-Sourced Meals Now on the Menu
Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) has announced a major change to how students will be served at mealtimes. From this term, the secondary school, part of Athena Learning Trust, will take full control of its catering by introducing an in-house service.
The new approach aims to deliver high-quality, nutritious meals that support students’ health and well-being throughout the school day. By managing the service internally, CSIA hopes to ensure every meal is fresh, balanced, and delicious.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer a fresh, in-house catering experience for our students,” said Emma Haase, Principal of Camborne Science and International Academy. “Our catering team is passionate about creating meals that are not only delicious but also nutritious and locally sourced wherever possible. By doing this, we’re not just providing food; we’re also supporting the local community and making sure our students are getting the best possible start in the day.”
Focus on Local and Seasonal Ingredients
As part of the service, menus have been designed to promote healthy eating. Seasonal ingredients will take centre stage, with the school sourcing produce from local suppliers wherever possible. This not only ensures freshness but also supports local businesses in and around Camborne.
All proceeds from meal sales will be reinvested directly back into the catering service, helping to maintain high standards and fund future improvements.
Supporting Students’ Well-Being
The shift to in-house catering is about more than just food. The academy is focused on ensuring that every student has access to balanced meals, helping them stay energised and focused throughout lessons and extracurricular activities.
Camborne Science and International Academy is rated Good for quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Its sixth form provision is rated Outstanding.
Located in Camborne, Cornwall, CSIA offers a secure and supportive environment where students are encouraged to grow academically and personally. The academy aims to foster qualities such as self-confidence, leadership, determination, resilience, self-reliance and kindness.
