Callington Town Council Partners with Devon & Cornwall Food Action to Tackle Food Waste
To address the environmental impact of food waste, Callington Town Council has announced a partnership with Devon & Cornwall Food Action. This collaboration aims to reduce the amount of food waste going to landfill and provide substantial savings to residents.
Starting on Thursday, 29th February 2024, the council will host a monthly event in the free car park on Saltash Road. Between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm, residents can collect pre-ordered ‘food boxes’ filled with fresh, in-date produce. Remarkably, these boxes, valued at over £80, are available for just £25.00, payable via card or cash. This initiative not only offers financial benefits but also significantly contributes to reducing food waste.
Callington Town Council invites everyone to participate in this environmentally conscious initiative. To facilitate a smooth process, pre-orders for the food boxes are required. Residents can find the order form in the Callington Newsletter, on the Council’s website (https://callington-tc.gov.uk/services/food-action-group/), or by visiting the Town Hall. The deadline for submitting the order forms is Monday, 26th February. The council will subsequently confirm the orders via a phone call.
As a reminder, attendees are encouraged to bring plenty of bags to carry their purchases. The Town Council and Devon & Cornwall Food Action are hopeful that this initiative will set a precedent for other communities to follow, demonstrating a practical approach to environmental conservation and community support.
