Cornwall-based provider secures prestigious Broadband Provider of the Year title

Wildanet, the Cornwall-based broadband provider, has been named Broadband Provider of the Year at the prestigious Connected Britain Awards 2024, marking a significant achievement for the company as it continues to expand its Full Fibre broadband network across Cornwall and the South West.

The accolade was presented during the Connected Britain event at the ExCel in London, one of the most prominent gatherings in the UK telecoms sector. The Liskeard-based AltNet was recognised for its rapid growth and impact on improving connectivity in rural and underserved areas. The judges commended Wildanet’s outstanding services, saying the provider stood out in an extremely competitive category.

Continued Success for Wildanet

This award adds to Wildanet’s growing list of accolades. Earlier this year, the company was named Best Rural Fibre Provider at the UK Fibre Awards 2024. Wildanet’s reputation for championing digital inclusion has earned it recognition across the industry, particularly for its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

In 2023, the company won the Sustainability Award at the Connected Britain Awards 2023 and was named Most Sustainable Large Business at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards. Wildanet’s efforts were further highlighted when it became the first UK-based AltNet to be certified as a B Corporation in 2024, a status that underscores its dedication to sustainability and ethical practices.

Major Investments Driving Growth

Backed by a significant £100 million investment from Gresham House, Wildanet has rapidly expanded its network and workforce. With over 200 staff, the company is now the largest alternative broadband provider in Cornwall. Its investments include a £35 million injection from the UK Infrastructure Bank to help accelerate its broadband rollout in rural areas.

Additionally, Wildanet secured two contracts worth a combined £36 million from the UK government in 2023, aiming to connect thousands of homes and businesses in Cornwall. A further £41 million investment followed in 2024, enabling the company to expand its services to East Cornwall, West Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly.

Wildanet also featured in Digital Britain: Connecting the Nation, an ITN Business programme aired at Connected Britain. The show, hosted by Duncan Golestani, explored the critical role the digital sector plays in the UK economy and highlighted Wildanet as a key player in the country’s digital infrastructure development.

Founded in 2017, Wildanet’s mission has always been to deliver high-speed internet to remote and hard-to-reach areas. With strategic partnerships, such as the recent agreement with Nokia, the company is poised to continue its mission of bridging the digital divide across the region.
