Wildanet Launches Cornwall’s First 2Gbps Full Fibre Broadband
Wildanet launches 2Gbps Full Fibre broadband across Cornwall
Cornwall-based broadband provider Wildanet has announced the launch of a 2Gbps Full Fibre broadband service – the first of its kind in Cornwall and among the fastest available anywhere in the UK.
The new service is now live in selected areas, marking a major leap forward for internet speeds and reliability in the region. Customers can check availability or register their interest at www.wildanet.com.
Bringing World-Class Internet to Cornwall
The rollout of this two gigabit (2Gbps) service has been made possible thanks to key upgrades across Wildanet’s network. A new 100-gigabit core ring replaces the previous 10-gigabit backbone, enabling the network to support tens of thousands of subscribers while maintaining low latency and high reliability.
Simon Hughes, Wildanet Chief Commercial Officer, said:
“The launch of this service isn’t just about faster speeds – it is about setting a new benchmark for broadband quality in Cornwall and showing what is possible when you invest in future-ready infrastructure.
Digital connectivity in Cornwall has often lagged behind other areas in the UK, which is precisely why Wildanet was formed. With two gigabit Full Fibre now available, it is a clear statement that we’re putting the county on a par with, and in many cases considerably ahead of, the rest of the country.”
Upgraded Network, Unmatched Reliability
The new 100-gigabit core ring includes multiple backup routes that automatically reroute data in the event of a fault. This level of resilience goes far beyond the capabilities of many other Alternative Network Providers (AltNets), which often depend on a single backhaul connection.
Wildanet’s network is also connected to London’s main internet exchange, Telehouse, through two separate wholesale providers – National Grid Telecom and PXC – to maximise service continuity.
Performance stats show the investment is already paying off, with Wildanet’s network achieving 99.98% uptime in 2024 and improving to 99.99% so far in 2025. These figures are higher than many of the UK’s national broadband providers.
Supporting Rural and Hard-to-Reach Communities
Wildanet has been steadily rolling out Full Fibre broadband to thousands of homes and businesses across Cornwall and Devon. The company is also delivering three multi-million-pound contracts under the UK government’s Project Gigabit, aiming to bring gigabit-capable broadband to more than 37,000 premises across Cornwall.
In addition to speed and performance, Wildanet says it remains committed to digital inclusivity, helping ensure high-speed connectivity benefits communities that have historically been left behind.
