Local Organ Builder Honoured: RSCM Welcomes Lance Foy as an Honorary Member
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to church music, local organ builder Lance Foy has been named an honorary member of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). Lance, whose career in church music and organ building has spanned over 50 years, was presented with the honour by Baroness Hayman of Ullock, Chair of the RSCM Council, at St Albans Cathedral on Saturday, 19th October.
A Lifetime of Church Music
Lance’s journey in church music began at just 13 years old, when he first started playing the organ for church services. Over the decades, he has taken on multiple organist and choirmaster roles across churches in Cornwall, sharing his expertise and passion with communities throughout the region. Alongside his work in church music, Lance operates Lance Foy Organs, a family-run business based in Perranwell, specialising in the building, restoration, and maintenance of pipe organs across the southwest and beyond.
A Memorable Recognition
Reflecting on the award, Lance said, “What a happy surprise to collect this award, not something I thought would happen when I started out all those years ago! It’s always nice to have your work recognised. St Albans Cathedral was very impressive, and it was a lovely service.”
The RSCM’s annual honorary awards recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to church music, and Lance’s commitment has certainly left a lasting impact.
