Cornwall’s St. Ewe Becomes First UK Egg Packer to Earn B Corp Status in Europe
St. Ewe Free Range Eggs recognised during B Corp Month for commitment to sustainability
St. Ewe Free Range Eggs, a Cornish business based on the peninsula, has become the first UK-founded egg packing company to achieve B Corp certification in Europe.
The accreditation was awarded during B Corp Month – a time dedicated to raising awareness of the global movement and celebrating businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
A Cornish Business Leading the Way
The family-run company, led by Founder and CEO Rebecca Tonks, has grown from a small farm business into the UK’s fastest growing egg brand in grocery. Rebecca said:
“Becoming part of the B Corp movement is just the beginning of our journey at St. Ewe. This process has sharpened our focus, strengthened our values and culture, and guided us in implementing social and sustainable measures to ensure our business is fit to feed generations to come.”
She added, “It reinforces our message, helps build trust, and confirms our commitment to delivering food in a truly sustainable way.”
The certification strengthens St. Ewe’s position as a leader in ethical and sustainable food production within the UK egg industry.
Doubling Market Share and Expanding in Stores
St. Ewe has experienced rapid growth in the past two years, including doubling its market share in December 2024 compared to the same month the previous year. The brand also secured branded displays in more than 550 Tesco Express stores during Pancake Day – the UK’s peak fortnight for egg sales – and rolled out listings in over 350 Morrisons stores this March with its signature Rich Yolk range.
The free-range egg sector itself is also growing, with sales up 13.3% year-on-year, likely driven by more consumers looking for higher-welfare options.
More Than Just a Badge
Senior Sustainability Manager Elle Sambrook said:
“B Corp certification is a reflection of who we are as a company: innovative, bold, and honest. It allows us to ensure that our growth is grounded in the principles that matter most to us and our community.”
Managing Director Martin Glinski added:
“We have aspired to become a B Corp business for a number of years as we feel there is great purpose and values alignment between St. Ewe and B Corp.”
“The application process has given us the opportunity to improve for our team, farmers and customers, which will undoubtedly put us in a strong position as we continue to grow the business.”
Martin continued, “Hopefully it provides reassurance to our team, customers and farmers that we really do care about their welfare and the health of our environment and communities.”
