Chamber Congratulates New Cabinet Under Councillor Leigh Frost

The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the appointment of Cornwall Council’s new leadership team under Councillor Leigh Frost, saying it looks forward to working closely with the Cabinet.

John Brown, Chief Executive of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, said the early signs from the new team have been encouraging.

“They want to get the foundations right, do the basics well, and ensure they’re functioning effectively as a council first – which aligns perfectly with our recommendations to collaborate and listen, working with business rather than around us.”

Top Priorities for Cornwall’s Economy

The Chamber says the business community is ready to collaborate and has highlighted three urgent areas that need attention:

  • Transport Infrastructure
This remains the top concern for local businesses.

“We need more buses, not just more BCORPs” said John, stressing the importance of reliable transport links to help people access work and drive economic growth.

  • Housing Solutions
Solving Cornwall’s ongoing housing issues is seen as vital to keep workers in the region and support business development.

  • Skills Development
The Chamber is calling for investment in skills and training across key sectors including construction, advanced manufacturing, digital and AI.

A Nationally Important Region

John also emphasised Cornwall’s wider role in supporting national priorities, saying the region plays a key part in food security, energy security, critical minerals and defence.

“We need a clear and consistent narrative for what Cornwall is and what it can offer the rest of the UK,” he said. “Cornwall is intrinsic to aligning with government strategy, and we must ensure government understands our comprehensive capabilities.”

The Chamber says it is ready to support the new leadership in creating solid foundations, making it easier for businesses to engage with the council, and growing Cornwall’s economy through genuine partnership.
