Porkellis plumber finishes second in UK-wide awards

Heating installer Joshua Bond from Porkellis has been named runner up in the Heating Installer Awards 2025, beating hundreds of entries from across the country.

The announcement was made today (25th June) at a ceremony held at the Birmingham NEC, where the final results of the national awards were revealed. Joshua, who runs Off Grid Plumbing and Heating Ltd, was representing the South West after being crowned regional winner earlier this year.

A 19th Century Cottage Gets a Modern Makeover

Joshua’s entry focused on a standout job transforming the heating system of a cottage dating back to the 1800s. The property had no existing central heating, so Joshua designed and installed a new system using Hydrated Vegetable Oil (HVO) boilers – chosen for their efficiency and lower environmental impact.

In addition to the submitted case study, finalists were put through a technical challenge set by industry experts, testing their knowledge of sustainable products, planning, regulations and customer care.

Joshua has worked in Cornwall for over 15 years, providing plumbing, heating and renewable energy solutions to homes and businesses throughout the region. His company, Off Grid Cornwall, continues to serve customers across the South West.

Recognised for Neat Work and Honest Advice

Commenting on his success, Joshua said:

“I was up against some of the top names in the country for this award, so to come out in the top two is absolutely incredible. We’ve delivered such a variety of work for people in Cornwall over the past 12 months and I’m so happy that the work has been recognised as top class.
Not only have I won my region and then a nationally recognised award, but I’ve also met some of the nicest people through these awards who are now friends I can rely on. It’s been a tremendous experience. I’m looking forward to getting back home and letting everyone know now.”

One of Joshua’s customers, whose home was part of the award submission, added:

“The service he provided for my cottage renovation was amazing. He told me exactly what he was going to do and why and there were no surprises because he’d highlighted things that might be an issue before hand.
His work was very neat and tidy even in an empty house, and he put everything back perfectly. The installation is so neat I get comments from every other contractor who attends. He was also very honest about what would work and would not work for me, designing my system to what I needed.”
