Chocolate Lovers Rejoice: Truro’s Cornish Bakery to Host Month-Long Rio Nuevo Takeover
Chocolate enthusiasts in Cornwall are in for a treat as Rio Nuevo, an ethical Cornish chocolate company, takes over Cornish Bakery in Truro for a month of indulgence from 7th February to 7th March 2025. The collaboration promises a host of chocolate-infused experiences, including tastings, exclusive drinks, and a special Valentine’s wine and chocolate pairing evening.
A Chocolate-Filled February in Truro
Throughout the takeover, Cornish Bakery on Boscawen Street will be transformed with co-branded window vinyls, creating a chocolate-lover’s haven. The Rio Nuevo team will be on hand to offer complimentary sample tastings, allowing visitors to experience the rich, complex flavours of their premium chocolate.
Chocolate lovers can enjoy:
- 60% drinking chocolate, boasting notes of caramel, raisins, and rose
- Raspberry chocolate bar, a smooth and semi-sweet treat
- Chocolate orange bar, offering a zesty, citrus kick
All Rio Nuevo chocolate products are proudly vegan, adding to their ethical appeal.
Exclusive Hot Chocolate & Nationwide Expansion Plans
While Rio Nuevo’s chocolate bars are already available in all 66 Cornish Bakery locations across the UK, this Truro event will be the first time their hot chocolate will be available to buy in-store. Made using the Arriba Nacional cacao variety, one of the world’s rarest and oldest, the drink is known for its fruity and floral depth of flavour.
If the trial is successful, Cornish Bakery hopes to roll out the drinking chocolate nationwide.
Valentine’s Day Wine & Chocolate Pairing
For those looking to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style, Cornish Bakery and Rio Nuevo will host a special event on 14th February from 6pm – 8pm. The evening will feature:
- Two exclusive desserts made with Rio Nuevo chocolate
- Curated wine pairings to complement the flavours
- Storytelling from Rio Nuevo’s founder, Sara Castañeda, detailing the company’s journey and ethical approach to chocolate-making
Tickets for the Valentine’s evening are priced at £25 per person and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
A Collaboration Rooted in Ethical Sourcing
Founded in Cornwall, Rio Nuevo is committed to creating high-quality, ethically sourced chocolate while supporting cacao farming communities in Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest and Cloud Forest. The company’s mission is to address inequalities in the chocolate industry and uplift farming communities.
Cornish Bakery, which started in Mevagissey, now operates 66 bakeries across the UK. The business takes pride in sourcing local ingredients from Cornwall and the South West, offering freshly baked pastries, scones, pasties, and more.
Cornish Bakery’s Managing Director, Mat Finch, said:
“We are delighted to partner with Rio Nuevo in this way. This is the first time we have combined our mutual passion to create a takeover of this kind, and Rio Nuevo is the perfect fit.”
Sara Castañeda of Rio Nuevo added:
“This month-long event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with customers and share our passion for craft chocolate. We can’t wait to meet everyone who stops by and bring a little more chocolate joy to the heart of Truro.”
