End of Beach Patrols Marks a Memorable Season for Bude Surf Life Saving Club
Sunday 29th September marked the end of Bude Surf Life Saving Club’s voluntary beach patrols for the 2024 season. Over the past several months, members of the club dedicated a combined 787 hours to assisting RNLI lifeguards every weekend and bank holiday since the season began on 29th March.
Preventative Measures in Action
During this time, the club recorded 2,563 preventative actions. This included giving advice to beachgoers, encouraging people to avoid dangerous areas, and helping maintain the red and yellow flagged zones under the RNLI’s supervision.
Final Day of Lifeguard Service at Crooklets
The same day also saw the end of the paid lifeguard service at Crooklets Beach. To mark the occasion, Club President Peter ‘Vicko’ Vickery and member Angus Macdonald led a procession of club members in a march at 6:00pm. Angus delivered a special remix of “Trelawny” and “Flower of Scotland” to mark the moment.
Lifeguard Coverage Continues
Although the patrols at Crooklets have ended, lifeguard services will continue at Summerleaze and Widemouth beaches during weekends throughout October, including half term.
The club expressed their gratitude to the lifeguards at Crooklets and Summerleaze for their support and guidance throughout the busy summer season.
