Emergency Services Rally to Aid Man After Dangerous Fall in Bude
In a swift display of coordinated effort, the Bude Coastguard Rescue Team, alongside other emergency services, successfully managed a critical rescue operation after a man sustained a serious head injury following a fall onto rocks near Bude Sea Pool.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, prompted a significant emergency response involving multiple agencies.
Emergency Call and Immediate Response
At 10:13 AM, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Falmouth alerted the Bude Coastguard Rescue Team about the accident. Upon arrival at the scene, the team quickly assessed the situation and began administering essential first aid to the injured man.
Recognising the need for additional support, the Officer in Charge promptly called for backup from the Boscastle Coastguard Team to assist in safely transporting the casualty off the beach.
Stretcher Carry to Safety
Given the remote location of the accident and the rocky terrain, it was necessary to use a stretcher to move the injured man. The teams worked together to carefully transfer him to a stretcher and commenced the delicate process of carrying him towards the Bude RNLI Lifeboat station, where he could be more comfortably situated while awaiting further medical assistance.
Timely Arrival of Paramedics
As the rescue officers approached the Summerleaze car park with the casualty, paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust arrived at the scene. The transition of care was smoothly executed with the casualty being transferred to an ambulance stretcher and promptly taken to the hospital for the necessary treatment.
Community and Teamwork
The operation showcased exemplary teamwork and community spirit. Special thanks were extended to the vigilant passersby who initially found the injured man and alerted the emergency services, potentially saving his life. The Bude RNLI Lifeboat station also received thanks for their readiness and support during the incident.
The Bude Coastguard Rescue Team concluded their report by expressing their hope for a speedy recovery for the casualty and acknowledging the collective effort that ensured the rescue operation was a success.
