Bude Sea Pool to Host Water Rokit STEM Event for Local Children on 15th July
STEM meets splash at this unusual North Cornwall event
Children from across North Cornwall and North Devon will gather at Bude Sea Pool on Tuesday 15th July 2025 for a day that promises more than just water and fun. The Water Rokit Launch will turn the popular sea pool into a hands-on science space, giving young people a chance to get involved with real-world science through rocket building and launching.
A Launchpad for the Future
This unique event is designed to introduce children to the exciting world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) in a way that’s both educational and engaging. Using reusable water-powered rocket systems, students will learn about Newton’s laws, propulsion, and air pressure — not from a textbook, but from building and launching their own rockets.
Behind the splash is a bigger purpose. The aim is to inspire the next generation to consider careers in climate science, aerospace engineering, satellite technology, robotics, and space data. For many of these children, it could be their first step onto the STEM ladder.
A Symbolic Connection to the Sea
Bude Sea Pool might usually be a spot for swimmers and sunbathers, but on the 15th, it becomes a microcosm of the real rocket world. Globally, many rocket launches happen over water for safety and recovery, and this event mirrors that on a local scale — showing young minds how science and the sea are more connected than they might think.
Learning Beyond the Pool
The rocket launch is only part of the story. It’s supported by the Water Rokit Education Portal, an online platform that provides structured STEM resources for schools, clubs, home educators and parents. It offers experiments, lesson plans, teacher training, and challenges, all designed to make science accessible to all.
“We believe every child deserves the chance to discover science through action,” says Water Rokit’s Education Team. “It often takes just one moment — one teacher, one launch, one burst of excitement — to change the course of a child’s future.”
Why It Matters Right Now
With science education facing budget cuts and fewer qualified teachers, events like this bring new energy and opportunity into rural communities. For children in North Cornwall and North Devon, it’s a chance to see how science connects to real life — and how their own ideas could one day help solve global problems.
