Bude Sea Pool Secures £2,000 Boost – Bringing Water Safety and Outdoor Learning to Local Schools

Published On: 6 March 2025Last Updated: 6 March 2025By

Bude Sea Pool has received a £2,000 grant from the South West Water Community Fund to support its successful Pool School programme for another year. The funding will ensure that primary school children in the Bude area can take part in engaging sessions covering the history, geology, geography, and biology of the pool, alongside vital water safety education.

Bringing Learning to Life

Pool School delivers assemblies to all Bude area primary schools, offering children a deeper understanding of the unique environment of Bude Sea Pool. With the newly secured funding, a minibus will also be available to transport children to the pool for hands-on outdoor learning experiences.

“For many of these children, it will be their very first visit to the Pool – and the first time they’ve worn a wetsuit!” Bude Sea Pool stated.

Essential Water Safety and Marine Education

Pool School is supported by several local organisations, ensuring that children receive expert guidance across a range of topics:

  • Bude Surf Life Saving Club teaches essential water safety and rescue techniques, including the ‘float to live’ method.
  • Bude Marine Group provides sessions on marine life found along the Bude coastline and within the pool itself.
  • Zuma Jay supplies wetsuits and equipment for the children, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Bude Sea Pool expressed gratitude to Olivia and the South West Water Community Fund for making this year’s programme possible, highlighting the importance of inspiring and involving local children—the future guardians of Bude Sea Pool.
