New Bookshop and Coffee Spot in Bodmin Supports Mental Health – Find Out How

Cornwall Mind is set to open The Reading Room, its first-ever book and coffee shop, in Bodmin later this month. The grand opening will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, 28th March at Hamley Court, Dennison Road, Bodmin (PL31 2LL), with the official launch led by Dr. Sarah Hughes, CEO of National Mind.

A New Community Space

Far more than just a place to grab a coffee and a second-hand book, The Reading Room has been created as a welcoming space where people can connect and talk about mental health.

Paul Reeve, CEO of Cornwall Mind, said:

“Cornwall Mind are really excited to announce the launch of The Reading Room. A bookshop and coffee shop in Bodmin that will serve top-quality local coffee along with cakes and a massive selection of preloved books. Reading real books is on the rise since the pandemic and as we know, it is so good for our wellbeing, and we think this is a great resource to have in the town. There will be discounts for Blue Light Card holders and the books will all be affordable. More than this though, The Reading Room is a place to get information, advice and guidance if you are worried about your own or someone else’s mental health.”

Supporting Mental Health in Cornwall

Every purchase made at The Reading Room will directly support Cornwall Mind’s ongoing work in the county. The charity provides mental health services for local people and aims to make support more accessible.

Cornwall Mind also plans to introduce a wellbeing book club, offering a space for people to enjoy reading while connecting with others on their journey to better mental health.

The opening event on 28th March is open to all, and Paul will be available to speak about The Reading Room and Cornwall Mind’s wider work.
