Cornwall-based creative powerhouse Mydd Pharo has announced his departure from Wildworks to establish a bold new multi-disciplinary arts company, Daur. Known for its focus on courage and radical kindness, Daur represents the next chapter for Mydd after two decades with the immersive theatre company.
Two Decades of Impact at Wildworks
Mydd has been an integral part of Wildworks since its inception in 2005, collaborating closely with founder Bill Mitchell. Over the years, he played a significant role in shaping the company’s artistic vision, becoming Artistic Director in 2020. Under his leadership, the Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation navigated a delicate period of evolution following Bill’s passing in 2017.
One of Mydd’s recent triumphs as Artistic Director was Stranger Beasts, a production that captivated audiences against the striking backdrop of Geevor Tin Mine in West Cornwall. His tenure has also included creative projects like The Passion in Port Talbot, I AM KEVIN, and the Cornwall-wide We are Shining programme. Reflecting on his journey, Mydd shared, “I have had the time of my life making work at the core of Wildworks for two decades.”
Introducing Daur: A New Creative Journey
Daur, derived from a Celtic word meaning “dare to be courageous,” will focus on creating innovative and experimental experiences across theatre and the arts. Mydd explained, “With Daur, it’s out with safe and in with courage, joy, radical kindness and wonder.” The new company is already preparing for its first projects, with developments planned for 2025.
For Mydd, this new venture represents an opportunity to embrace creativity in its boldest form. He remarked, “I feel very proud of the work I made alongside Bill, and also proud of the work we have created over my time as Artistic Director of the company. However, now, it’s time for me to carve my own path of work and experiment.”
A Legacy of Creativity and Collaboration
Beyond Wildworks, Mydd’s career spans over 25 years, with immersive and interactive projects for renowned organisations like Kneehigh, Punchdrunk, The National Theatre, and The Globe. His commitment to innovation and storytelling has been a hallmark of his work, consistently pushing boundaries and challenging conventions.
