Cornwall’s young people are set to gain significantly from a nationwide initiative aimed at enhancing youth services, with the Government announcing an investment of over £90 million in the Youth Investment Fund. This investment will lead to the construction or refurbishment of 140 youth centres across England, directly impacting nearly 20,000 young individuals by providing them with access to a range of activities, including dance, drama, and sport.

Among the beneficiaries, Cornwall stands out with two notable projects poised to transform local youth services. The Cornwall Guide Association and KBSK PERFORMING ARTS CIC are set to receive substantial funding, amounting to £119,532 and £718,483.90, respectively. This financial support will enable the creation and enhancement of vital youth facilities and programs in the region.

The Cornwall Guide Association aims to empower girls by building confidence, raising aspirations, and encouraging them to be a positive force within their community. With the allocated funds, the association plans to utilise Cornwall’s rich countryside, beaches, and heritage to offer a diverse range of activities that promote personal growth and community engagement.

KBSK PERFORMING ARTS CIC, on the other hand, focuses on providing dance opportunities to young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds, including those facing mental health challenges, Autism, ADHD, and visual impairments. The funding will support KBSK in promoting expression and growth through dance, offering a unique platform for young individuals to explore their talents and develop new skills.

The announcement comes at a crucial time when communities are seeking to offer more inclusive and engaging opportunities for young people. Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer highlighted the Government’s commitment to ensuring every young person has access to meaningful activities outside of the classroom. The Youth Investment Fund’s latest round of funding is a testament to this commitment, aiming to create spaces where young individuals can thrive.

This investment in Cornwall’s youth is part of a broader government strategy to support young individuals across the country. The National Youth Guarantee aims to ensure all young people aged 11-18 in England have access to clubs, activities, and volunteering opportunities by 2025. With over £500 million earmarked for this initiative, the Government is set to create a lasting legacy of support and opportunity for England’s youth.

As Cornwall’s young population prepares to benefit from these initiatives, the community looks forward to seeing the positive changes these investments will bring. Enhanced youth services not only offer immediate benefits in terms of engagement and skill development but also promise to foster a generation of confident, capable, and community-minded individuals.
