In a significant move to bolster their squad, the Cornish Pirates have warmly welcomed 23-year-old David Douglas ‘Doug’ Bridge to their ranks. Bridge, a versatile and powerful rugby player, has joined the Pirates on loan from Ealing Trailfinders and is set to make a substantial impact at the Mennaye Field.
Bridge’s rugby journey is marked by notable achievements and experiences. Before his stint with the Trailfinders, he was a shining star in the BUCS Super Rugby league, playing for Loughborough. His skills were further honed during loan spells with Leicester Tigers and London Scottish, and he also boasts the prestigious title of a former England Students international.
The young talent’s versatility is a key asset for the Pirates. Bridge is primarily a back row player, but he possesses the adaptability to effectively play in the second row if needed. This flexibility provides the Pirates with strategic options and depth in their squad.
Alan Paver, the joint head coach of the Cornish Pirates, expressed his enthusiasm about Bridge’s arrival. “We are aware that the Trailfinders think very highly of Doug, and they are investing in him for the future. He is a big and powerful young man whose preferred position is in the back row, but he can also slot into the second row if needed,” Paver stated.
Paver also highlighted the conducive environment at the Cornish Pirates, which has been beneficial for other Ealing squad members on loan this season. He believes that Bridge’s integration into the team will be smooth and successful.
With an aim to secure a starting spot, Bridge’s addition to the Pirates is seen as mutually beneficial for both him and the team. Paver optimistically noted, “It’s a good fit for them and a good fit for us, and touch wood we shouldn’t have to wait too long before he is seen.”
This strategic move by the Cornish Pirates demonstrates their commitment to strengthening their squad and nurturing young talent, keeping the spirit of competitive rugby alive and thriving in Cornwall. Bridge’s arrival is eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike, who are excited to see the dynamic he brings to the field.
