UPDATE: Man Charged With Murder After Woman Found Dead in Bude

A man has now been charged with murder following the death of a 93-year-old woman in Bude on Sunday 29th June.

David Botham, 65, charged with murder

David Botham, aged 65, of Cherrill Gardens, Bude, has been charged with murder in connection with the incident. He is due to appear before Exeter Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 2nd July.

Background to the investigation

Emergency services were called to an address on Cherrill Gardens at around 1pm on Sunday after a report of concern for welfare. A 93-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

A police cordon remains in place, and officers have previously confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Rob Smith, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, had earlier said:

“It is thought the deceased and suspect are known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“There will continue to be a heightened police presence in the area as our enquiries continue.

“If anyone has any information that could aid the investigation, we ask that they contact us by speaking to one of our officers, via our website or by calling 101.”
